Twenty Years of Lessons

The last twenty years have taught me things that I never learned in school. The lessons make me wonder what the big deal about finish this degree or that vocational program is. So what have I learned?

There were relevant, irrelevant and random didn't want to know lessons over the last two decades.........

1. People will assume anything they want. You just have to let them.
2. Living your life by your beliefs will offend some people.
3. Sometimes the scars are more rewarding than the smiles.
4. Nothing ever goes as planned when you need it to.
5. Children are the greatest teachers.
6. Seasons sometimes change on the calendar alone.
7. It is better to be happy alone than miserable with someone.
8. Never marry someone you are not certain you want to build a life with.
9. Divorce is expensive.
10. Sacrifice is often required for survival.
11. Love is shown in the strangest, sometimes unrecognizable ways
12. Responsibility is not meant to be fun.
13. People can and will take advantage of you if you let your guard down.
14. Relationships can drain you until you have nothing left.
15. You can pick yourself up without assistance when you fall; assistance just makes the blow less painful.
16. Family is not always blood.
17. Sometimes the best things find you when you aren't looking.
18. Your children are often just like you when you least expect it.
19. Music can take you back in time.
20. The most important lessons are painful.
    

 What can I take from the lessons? The fact that a piece of myself was either lost or gained from each of them. I no longer worry what people think, if I ever did. I seriously do not remember a time when I cared at this point. 

I know that there are endless lessons in this life, and I can merely hope to learn them without need to repeat the lessons which I find most painful.
