September of 2013 my youngest daughter and I began a journey that changed our lives. In August of 2017 we began a new leg of the journey. Sit back and I'll go through it with you. Grab a drink and a chair, it's an entertaining story.

It was in 2013 that we left our home in the middle of the night. This was the first leg of a new journey for us. We went to South Carolina where we spent six months, then we went to Arkansas for approximately three and a half years. The lessons learned during that time were massive for us. The difference between the support system we had in South Carolina and the total lack of support in Arkansas was drastic to say the least.
First Leg of the Journey
I learned that I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself and my child without anyone to fall back on. I can survive anything, and so can my little girl. It was a lesson I did not want her to learn so early in life but I'm glad that she knows she will be fine no matter what life throws at her. She was six years old when we left.
She left everything she had ever known and everything she owned behind. I'd done that before but she shouldn't have had to. The reasons are long and complicated, the court has already settled the matter in my favor. I also learned that I had "issues" from the life we had led and am glad that she did not suffer the same issues that I did as a result of living in the same situation. It seems she was sheltered from it, or to young to realize what was going on.
Second Leg of the Journey
I managed to get divorced and spend to much time in Arkansas. It was strange being alone there. I had one friend there when I got there and a few acquaintances, enemies and rumor spreaders when I left. The years we spent there taught me a few things.
I am perfectly capable of managing on my own even if it means walking everywhere we go in order to get what we need. The use of transportation services is only required for appointments but those appointments have to be 48 hours away to schedule transportation. We went without doctor's visits when we were sick because of this technicality and the lack of a vehicle but we managed to get by without the assist of other's for the most part.
