I had the pleasure of reading Mimi Mathis' His Name Is Joe this morning. It's a children's book with a subtle message that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Joe is a little boy that has learned how to get people to look past his difference by teaching them how to approach him when they don't know what to say. The stares he gets are from people not being comfortable and he recognizes that fact. He puts them at ease. As you can see from the cover Joe is in a wheelchair.
The book shows us that it is not difficult to get to know those that we do not know how to approach. If a child can teach people how to approach him then no one should have a problem with common courtesy and befriending others.
I recommend that you read this with your children, and gift it to other children. The lesson is valuable.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own and were not influenced in anyway.
